Tapestry - Online Journal

At Patcham Village Pre-school we employ an easy-to-use, secure online learning journal system; namely 'Tapestry' to help staff and families share and celebrate children’s learning and development together.

Tapestry builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years and primary education. Using photos, videos and diary entries our staff along with children's families weave the story of the child and how they are growing and developing.

The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely, and can be downloaded and shared as required.

Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and how much fun they’re having,  whilst also uploading their own comments and media'.

Updates

At Patcham Village Pre-school families receive fortnightly updates on Tapestry: capturing some of the wonderful experiences children have been enjoying.

You will receive photographs of your child (subject to parental permission) enjoying the many activities and experiences we offer at Patcham Village Pre-school along with a brief explanation of what they are doing.

It is crucial  to all staff at Patcham Village Pre-school that our knowledge of our children is not in the shape of written data and evidence, but in the knowledge we hold of them; knowledge that we gain by being 'in the moment' with every child, talking to them and our parents and carers.    Assessments which we carry out will be useful, but not take us away from children for long periods of time.

Parent/teacher consultations are held three times a year and are a chance for you and your child's key-person to talk about their progress at Pre-school and any  issues that may be causing a concern.   We understand life is busy and different for every family, therefore the consultations will be shaped around your needs and are held via: telephone, video call, face-to-face or written summative assessments - you choose.

We encourage too families to share with us experiences children have at home or on holiday, which we then talk to children about and look at together.

Parent comment on Tapestry

Extended Family and Friends

At Patcham Village Pre-school we understand the different geographical dynamics of families and how hard it is to be separated from those we love dearly who live in different towns and cities.

One of many special features Tapestry enables us to do is to have the ability to  involve grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends in children’s learning, whether they live near or far.  Adding additional users to your child's private and individual Tapestry account is entirely a parents choice and enables those dear to them to close the gaps that physical distance can by its very nature create.

"Children learn through exploration and discovery, indoors and out. They have great
fun as they play in the garden. Staff thoughtfully select resources that help children
to develop their physical control and coordination. Children practise balancing as
they steer two-wheeled vehicles and negotiate a walkway created from planks.
Staff recognise the value of building on children's interest in outdoor play to
promote other areas for learning, such a literacy. For example, children sit together
to look at books and, with the support of staff, they use chalks to make marks."
